4 Great Pregnancy Stretches to Start Today.

We are aware of the benefits of pregnancy massage. Whether it is a remedial massage treatment, to help ease certain muscular issues due to changes in the body, or a relaxation massage to aid sleeping due to discomfort. This is a great way to help your body through a very amazing but physically challenging time.

There is a vital additional aid that compliments these treatments though, what is this I hear you ask?  Stretching! Yes that’s right, during pregnancy our muscles have to do a lot of extra work to compensate for our rapidly changing body. Stretching has a key role to play in helping to ensure good health during pregnancy. Stretching muscles is beneficial because it improves your range of movement, making it easier to carry the excess weight of your baby. When muscles are relaxed and flexible, they can handle the weight distribution more comfortably and safely.

Here are four easy stretches you can safely do during pregnancy. These exercises target the muscles most affected by pregnancy: Calf and hamstrings, upper and lower back, and hips whilst helping to ease common pregnancy discomforts.

How to do the stretches: Hold each stretch to a point of mild tension for about eight to 10 seconds, then release. Repeat each stretch three times. Each time you stretch, go a little farther, as long as you are comfortable.

Frequency: Do this program four to five times per week or whenever you feel the need to stretch. If any of the stretches become painful stop straight away.

As always, check with your health care professional before starting any new exercise program and try some of these stretches today.
