What is Myotherapy?

Myotherapy is a physical therapy designed to treat and manage muscle and joint-related pain and dysfunction. The term ‘myo’ translates to ‘muscle’, so simply put, myotherapy means muscle therapy. 

How does Myotherapy work?
Our Ocean Grove myotherapists use a range of modalities to ease pain, including: 

Manual dry needling
Myofascial cupping
Decongestive Lymphatic drainage massage
Kinesiology taping

What is a Trigger Point?

Often when we’re feeling aches and sore points in our muscles, we claim to have ‘muscle knots’. These are referred to as trigger points… but what is that? A myofascial trigger point is a hyperirritable spot in skeletal muscle, associated with a hypersensitive, palpable nodule in a taut band. This spot is painful upon compression and may give rise to characteristic referred pain, tenderness, and motor dysfunction.
